ePlus Technology Selected by City of Melrose
for “Muni-Cloud” Data Center Solution

HERNDON, VA – April 21, 2010 – ePlus inc. (Nasdaq NGM: PLUS – news) today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, ePlus Technology inc., has been selected by the City of Melrose in Massachusetts to design and implement a next-generation dynamic data center. The multi-tenancy solution—based on Cisco, NetApp, and VMware technology—will keep end-to-end network traffic, virtualized servers, and storage environments secure and segmented from one another, allowing the City of Melrose to offer regionalized data center services to surrounding municipalities and school districts.

The City of Melrose chose to work with ePlus based on its existing relationship and experience with other aspects of the City’s network infrastructure; long-standing partnerships with Cisco, NetApp, and VMware; and advanced technical certifications and knowledge.

ePlus provided a complete solution that includes pre-sales design, equipment sourcing, professional services and implementation, data migration and system setup. In addition, ePlus structured a unique lease that allowed the City of Melrose to acquire all equipment within its existing budget constraints, extending its purchasing power.

The enterprise-class data center solution design is built on technology from VMware, Cisco, and NetApp. The dynamic data center will connect the City’s 18 sites and allow the City to provide regionalized data center services to other cities and towns through dedicated servers and storage. An open-ended offering, the City’s regionalized IT services can range from the entire data center to a single application (such as phone services, desktops, or email) or technology support services.

“Our upgraded data center, built on the latest technology and delivered by ePlus, will allow us to take advantage of many benefits internally, including more efficient use of resources, nimbleness of provisioning servers, and dramatic improvements in power and cooling,” said Robert J. Dolan, Mayor of the City of Melrose. “It will also allow us to offer regionalized IT services to surrounding municipalities, pooling resources so we can build and sustain a robust and current infrastructure for all. With a predictable cost attached to information technology and maintenance, our community partners will be able to better allocate resources and plan strategically while relying on an IT infrastructure that is highly available, stable, and secure—something they can all depend on with current fiscal budgets.”

“Offering regionalized data center services will allow the City of Melrose to create significant cost savings in several ways. By operating one data center, we can leverage economies of scale to achieve savings on capital costs and reduce power and cooling costs, staffing needs, and licensing and support costs. In addition, regional partnerships will facilitate the financial burden of managing the capital costs over the lifecycle of all equipment,” said Patrick Dello Russo, CFO at the City of Melrose. “This offering will also enable us to leverage available stimulus and grant money related to regionalization and green initiatives.”

“We’re pleased to have been selected by the City of Melrose to build a dynamic data center offering for multi-tenancy,” said Mark Melvin, CTO at ePlus. “Cloud computing is the next step in the data center, and we’re excited to apply this to the public sector, for a ‘Muni-Cloud’ solution. We look forward to working with the City to roll out this new ‘Muni-Cloud’ solution to surrounding municipalities, so that they too can realize the benefits of cloud computing such as reduced costs and increased efficiencies.
